FRENCH FOR THE BENCH

Today was the first meeting of the campaign team supporting Associate Judge Dorothy French who is running for full circuit. I already knew many of the key players, and was glad to meet the balance. This is going to be an exciting experience.  I think I picked the right team; good thing because this race will be extremely competitive.

a day at the races ...

Wed, 11/28/2007 - 10:25

On Sunday I was a guest of Wachovia Securities at the 2007 Grand Prix Horse Show at the Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, Illinois. I invited a number of colleagues and clients, and we all had a great time.

As beautiful as the event was, and as nice a time as everyone had, it was daunting realizing that the riders (young girls of no more than 15) and their horses probably cost their rich parents more than I would make in my entire career.

Not only was it humbling, but it was a stark reminder that F. Scott Fitzgerald was right when he observed that the rich are different from you and me (turns out they're better).

AILA conference 07 (orlando, fla)

Wed, 11/28/2007 - 10:25
day 0: arrived in Orlando, Fla tonight for the start of the annual convention of the American Immigration Lawyers' Association (AILA). Should be informative and interesting.

day1: outstanding. and talk about an impressive group. these immigration lawyers aren't fooling around ... from Facebook

day 2: even better than day 1. lots to learn. lots of help and advice from some excellent speakers and peers. ... about 17 hours ago

day 3: final day of the conference behind me. it's been an education and an eye opening experience. and did I mention exhausting? that too. but great for reconnecting with some people and meeting new ones. who knew that this much opportunity was out there? doesn't hurt to pop your head up and see what's beyond your horizon from time to time. just don't forget to get back to it once you figure out what new directions you want to venture into.  ... 2 minutes ago

I know I'm going to have a lot to think about when I get back to Chicago.

... to be continued.
